Shasta Vs Lassen: The Tale of Two Half’s

By: Matt Brockman

As the Lady Knights left the locker room, the sound of clapping filled the air. The mood felt good and the vibe was positive. It seemed as if the Lady Knights had nothing to fear and not a care in the world. A few more wins and they would clinch a payoff spot. The Lady Knights are coming into tonight’s game with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses. Their opponents tonight are the Lassen Cougars who aren’t doing as well with a record of 0 wins and 5 loses, but their team looked tough. If there is one thing I have learned, it is to not underestimate someone.

Well, it’s game time. The referee lines up the Knights and Cougars for the jump-off and after a short pause he throws the ball up in the air, and the Lady Knights come out with the first ball of the game. After a missed shot by Shasta, the Cougars are able to get the first points on the board. So, Shasta sat at 3 to 0 with the Cougars in the lead.

Most of the Lady Knights points in the first half came from free-throws due to fouls made by the Cougars. Aubrea Pearson, sporting jersey #3, kept getting wide open looks due to the blown plays by the Cougars, but wasn’t able to come up with much. Second half ended 15 to 28 with the Cougars in the lead.
Coach Jerry Brown must have had a great halftime speech, because the Lady Knights came out with all the fire and intensity we, the fans, were expecting since the moment their shoes touched the hardwood. Right before our eyes, The Lady nights are driving the ball down and making 2’s and 3’s all over the place. The Cougars defense is no match for what the Lady Knights are bringing. Finally, the Lady nights have overcome the 13-point deficit and taken the lead for the first time in the game. The Cougars just didn’t look like the same team. Unfortunately, the Cougars weren’t able to keep up with the Lady Knights, and the Knights came out victorious with a final score of 67 to 52.

Both teams played their hearts out and my hat is off to both of them, but I have to admit, that win got my blood pumping.
